It encodes a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored protein that is expressed constitutively by neutrophils and after gamma-interferon stimulation by eosinophils. This protein binds to complex or aggregated IgG and monomeric IgG. Unlike III-A, it cannot mediate antibody-dependent cytotoxicity and phagocytosis.
